Business in Dubai, Jebel Ali Free Zone Dubai

To do business in Dubai you need a license in one of the three categories: (1) Commercial licences covering all kinds of trading activity, (2) Professional licences covering professions, services, craftsmen and artisans or (3) Industrial licences for establishing industrial or manufacturing activity. These licences are issued by the Dubai Economic Department.

In general the requirement for all companies in Dubai is that fifty-one per cent participation is by a UAE national except:

* Where the law requires 100% local ownership; * In the Jebel Ali Free Zone Dubai, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Airport Free Zone, Dubai Media City or the Dubai International Financial Centre; * Where wholly owned AGCC companies enter into partnership with UAE nationals; * In activities open to 100% AGCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) ownership; * In professional or artisan companies where 100% foreign ownership is permitted. * In respect of foreign companies registering branches or a representative office in Dubai;
