Dubai Horse Racing, Dubai World CupIn Dubai horse racing is very popular and the Dubai World Cup,which started in 1996, is world renowned.On 29th March 2008 the world's richest horse race with a purse of $USD 6 million was held.
The Jebel Ali Racecourse was constructed in 1990. Just like the Nad Al Sheba Horse Race Club it has a track of 2200 meters made of a mixture of sand and oil. The difference though is that this is a right handed racetrack while the other one is a left handed course.

There are 2 racecourses in Dubai: Nad Al Sheba and the Jebel Ali Racecourse. The Nad Al Sheba opened in 1986 and from November through March races are held. The three races are: the Winter Racing Challenge (WRC),the Dubai International Racing Carnival ( DIRC) and the Dubai World Cup ( DWC).It has a 2,200 meter dirt racetrack.
