The World Dubai, 300 Dubai Islands in the shape of a World Map

The World Dubai is located 4 kilometres ( 2.5 miles) off the coast of Dubai and is an artificial constructed group of 300 islands just like the 3 Dubai Palm Islands projects. Together these islands form the World Map and the area is 9 kilometres by 7 kilometres and is surrounded by an oval shaped breakwater of 27 kilometres. This megastructure was built primarily using sand dredged from the sea which started in 2003 by the Dutch dredging company Van Oord. In total 320 cubic metres of sand was used, enough to construct a wall of 2 metres wide and 4 metres high around the world.

This mega project adds 232 kilometres of coastline to Dubai that originally had only 75 kilometres. The size of the islands range from 14,000 mē (150,000 square feet) to 42,000 mē (450,000 square feet) and the prices vary from US$15 - 50 million. By February 2008 already 60% of the islands had been sold. The total cost of this archipelago is estimated at $ 14 Billion US Dollars
